The winner of the 2000 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature, Gloria is the author of many poems, short stories, and novels both for children and young adults. Born and raised in Detroit, many of Gloria’s works are heavily influenced by the setting and history of Michigan. Her talent is not confined to one part o the globe, however — masterpieces such as HOMELESS BIRD and ANGEL ON THE SQUARE effectively transport their readers across time and culture.
